Kim Karadarshian and Kanye entertain the paparazzi with shopping, ice cream-eating and Celine

As we’ve discussed previously, the pairing of Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, no matter how manufactured and publicity-driven it might be, makes me giddy with happiness on a level I can’t explain. Nevermind that the whole thing is made for TV and probably the result of an actual written contract – these two are made for each other, on a certain level. Or maybe they just deserve each other, but I guess that depends on your opinions on Kim and Kanye.

These photos of the “couple” were snapped near the Kirna Zabete and Louis Vuitton boutiques in Soho over the weekend, and I can’t help but wonder if Kim popped in to Dash, which is right around the corner, and gave the hordes of people waiting in line to get in a thrill. Yes, there are people who line up on the street in order to be granted access to the Kardashians’ boutique, which contains no actual Kardashians. They’re standing there on the sidewalk every time I go to Soho. Yes, they should all be shot into the sun. But maybe this weekend, they got to see a little bit of a show? At the very least, I’m sure they appreciated Kim’s Celine Phantom Luggage Tote in cream suede.

10 Bag Trends of Fall 2012

Spring has just arrived but in the world of fashion, we are in transit to check out the top drool-worthy bags for Fall 2012. This season, it is all about statement-making. Bags are adorned in luxurious fur (or faux fur), intricate embroidery, over-the-top embellishments, quirky prints and the arrival of new silhouettes.

We round up the top 10 bag trends from the Fall RTW 2012 runway.

1. Luxurious Fur

Let’s warm up with one of the biggest trends this season: Fur (or faux fur). Marc Jacobs, Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Proenza Schouler, Fendi, Michael Kors and many designers are getting wild with their furry bags. Proenza Schouler clutch brought the fur back to life with its simple yet inventive usage of the material. Fendi created a show-stopping tote bag with unique fur accents hanging off the sides of the bag. If you ask me, that is good enough to make it to my wish list.

You don’t need to raid your grandmother’s closet for granny-chic bags. This season, designers take inspiration from vintage designs. Dolce & Gabbana’s timeless Miss Sicily bag is decorated with intricate needlepoint floral that would make your grandmother jealous. Another favourite is Stella McCartney’s velvet clutch with vintage swirls which is perfect for a girl’s night out.

The verdict is in: Gladstone bags are making a comeback. The Gladstone bag, also known as the Doctor’s bag, was originally developed as a work and travel suitcase. This season, Alexander Wang, Donna Karan, Gucci, and Jill Sander have given the Gladstone bag a new lease of life and it is undeniably the new “IT” bag silhouette for Fall 2012.

Say goodbye to Tangerine as we are about to have a Scarlet fever this fall. This striking, bold colour made a big splash this season as designers embraced the color for their ready-to-wear collections, shoes and of course, bags. It is best to keep the design minimal when wearing scarlet. Take cue from these classy examples: The Chloe utility clutch and Valentino cocktail handbag.

What’s fashion without the glitz and glamour? Designers such as 3.1 Phillip Lim and Jason Wu are going for gold with their Fall 2012 collection. Forget about the myth that gold is only reserved for the night. You can easily incorporate gold pieces into your everyday style. However, the key is not to overdo it. Wear only one gold item at a time with monochromatic hues for the extra punch.

Fit for royalty or magpies? You decide. These bags are highly encrusted with embellishments of all shapes and sizes for the maximum wow-factor. Dolce & Gabbana is majorly generous with bits and baubles in creating this beautifully ornate clutch. On the flip side, Prada kept it the color palette similar and embellishments in symmetry.

Fendi Fall 2012

These exquisitely designed geometric-shaped bags are talking points of Fall 2012. Fendi sent interesting box-shaped bags with a tiny top handle which left most of us wondering what it actually is. Christopher Kane brought goth back to the runway and fashioned a series of square-shaped, printed clutches and fashionistas are already raving about them.

This fall, deep jewel tones dominated the runway as the fashion world graduated from Spring’s bright, poppish colours. Hues of emerald, sapphire, amethyst and amber bring a romance allure to the Fall collections. Our favourites this season include this emerald Bottega Veneta clutch and amethyst Chanel velvet handbag.
